Day 170: On Frustration
Who is the one person in your life who always frustrates you? What is it about them or about the situations you share that is so frustrating?
I try not to use absolute words like “always” and “never”. Truly, life is mostly lived in the grey “sometimes”. So when I say “always” here, I really mean “persistently” or “cyclically”.
Considering this, is there just one person who consistently causes you frustration? Who is this person, and why do they remain part of your life? I’m not implying you *should* get rid of them - no way. There is no judgment here - it takes all kinds to make a fulfilling, interesting existence, and choosing to keep frustrating people around - or choosing to remain in environments where they are - is part of life. Sometimes we don’t have a choice, because they are our boss, or our sibling, or what have you.
Today is about considering the choices you make that maintain contact or collaboration with this person. But its also about considering them and their personal situation(s) that may contribute to their behavior, attitude, way of talking to you. How much have you considered what is going on for them?
Finally, today encourages you to think about the situations you find yourself in with this person. Is there anything about the frequency or proximity that you could change to make your contact with them easier (or just plain less)? Is there anything you want to alter about the environment, the time (amount of time or specific time of day/week) that you can modify? How much of this is in your power to control, and how much do you just have to keep dealing with it?
